» jaynewinbend - Earliest signs of Autism

I am child care provider of an 8 month old baby boy I have had in my program since he was 2 months old. Aiden has had me concerned about his development almost from the start. He had a very difficult birth and was on a ventalator for 3 days. He has always been "floppy" although that seems to be getting better. (He doesn't "help" when you are holding him, just kind of hangs out without holding on like most kids.) He seems to enjoy peek a boo and patty cake but doesn't try to immitate or continue if I stop playing them with him. He also flaps his hands so much that a 4 year old in my program has even noticed it. HIs eye contact is semi o.k. and he smiles for people he knows very well but not strangers (even the other children's parents whom he sees almost every day)His physical development is also delayed( not crawling, seldom rolling over not sitting on his own ) My own son has Asperger's syndrome and Aiden reminds me a lot of him as an infant. His parents are just as concernd about the baby as I am , but the pediatrition is not.
