Parents and professionals can benefit from attending one of the many autism conferences held throughout the year. The Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI), home of the Interactive Autism Network (IAN), will be hosting its annual conference in October. The theme for the 2008 conference is Autism: Update on Diagnosis and Intervention Through Adolescence.
When autism professionals select the conferences that they will attend, they first look at the availability of continuing education units (CEUs). The 2008 Kennedy Krieger Institute Autism conference will provide CEU opportunities for occupational therapists, psychologists and speech-language pathologists.
The two day conference will feature discussions on differential diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders, a two-part series on sensory integration issues seen in children with autism and a two-part series on literacy in the non-verbal autistic child.
Eight autism professionals will be speaking at the 2008 Kennedy Krieger Institute conference including Sarah J. Spence Ph. D, M.D. of the National Institute of Mental Health, Brian Freedman Ph.D from the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), and Kenneth E. Towbin, M.D. from The George Washington University School of Medicine.
The conference will be held at the Sheppard Pratt Conference Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The Burkshire Marriott Conference Hotel has set aside a block of hotel rooms available at a special discounted rate for conference attendees. The Burkshire Marriot can be reached by calling (410) 324-8100.
The Radisson Hotel at Cross Keys is also located closely to the Sheppard Pratt Conference Center. Hotel reservations can be made at the Radisson by calling (410) 532-6900. Discounted conference rates are not available at the Radisson.
Pre-registration is strongly encouraged for this event. A registration postmark deadline of September 20, 2008 has been set with late registrations being accepted only if the event has not sold out. Prices range from $135.00 for a one-day admission for family members, students and Kennedy Krieger Institute employees to $350.00 for a two-day admission for autism professionals.
