The Fall 2008 DAN Conference will feature Jon Pangborn, PhD, Elizabeth Mumper, MD, Julie Matthews, CNC, Nancy O'Hara, MD and Dan Rossignol, MD.

Defeat Autism Now (DAN), part of the Autism Research Institute (ARI), is an organization that “is dedicated to the exploration, evaluation, and dissemination of scientifically documented biomedical interventions for individuals within the autism spectrum, through the collaborative efforts of clinicians, researchers, and parents.” (DAN Website)

DAN is only one of the many organizations that host conferences designed to educate and inform parents of children with autism as well as professionals who work with this population. The San Diego Town and Country Resort will host the Fall 2008 DAN Conference which is scheduled from October 23 through October 27.

Conference Schedule

The conference will begin with several Thursday evening workshops including a CARD Feeding Clinic as well as An Introduction to the Defeat Autism Now! Treatment Approach – Autism is Treatable! by Jim Adams, PhD.

General sessions begin on Friday with an Overview of the Defeat Autism Now! Biomedical Approach by Jim Pangborn, PhD, CCN. Friday’s sessions continue with workshops dedicated to dietary intervention as well as several question and answer sessions.

Saturday will feature a morning presentation by Doreen Granpeesheh, PhD of the Center for Autism and Related Disorders. The remaining Saturday workshops will focus on The Four Primary Systems Involved in Autism – gastrointestinal, metabolic, immune and neurological systems. In addition to the systems track, there is also a science track available on Saturday.

Sunday’s opening discussion will be held by noted author Dr. Kenneth Bock who has found recent success with his book Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies: The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders. Workshops continue through the end of the day on Monday.

Parent Registration

Registration for parents of children with autism starts at $99 per day for early registration. When registering, parents will need to choose between the general track or science tracks for each conference day. Financial assistance is available for military families as well as parents who elect to volunteer at the DAN Conference. Clinician Registration and CMEs

Autism professionals who plan to attend the 2008 Fall DAN Conference will pay a registration rate of $135.00 per day; clinicians can also choose between the general or science tracks for each conference day. For those who are looking for CME credits, an additional fee of $35.00 per day will be assessed with CME credits available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

San Diego Town and Country Resort and Convention Center

The Town and Country Resort will be hosting the conference and reduced rates of $136.00 per night are available for conference attendees. In order to secure this reduced rate, conference goers must call New Hope Travel at 1-800-777-1337.

Some of the most experienced professionals in biomedical intervention and research will be hosting workshops at the conference. The 2008 Fall DAN Conference is filled with workshops that will be informative for a family just now starting on the autism journey to the most experienced autism professionals.
