There is a great book to help children who might feel frustrated about not fitting in and having autism.

Different Like Me: My Book of Autism Heroes was written by Jennifer Elder. As Temple Grandin wrote, "This book will help inspire kids who are different and shows them that they too can succeed."

Different Like Me is filled with inspirational and historical stories about autistic people who conquered their differences and achieved great accomplishments in the fields of science, art, math, literature, philosophy and comedy.

When you start to read more about autism, you begin learning about all the famous people who either have been officially diagnosed with autism or due to historical research it is expected that they were on the autism spectrum. For example, Daryl Hannah was diagnosed with autistic tendencies at 3 years of age.

Jennifer Elder's book tells brief one page stories about people like Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton, Andy Warhol, Glen Gould, Lewis Carroll and Alan Turing. She has a son with autism and saw the frustration children experienced feeling like they didn't fit in. The book was written to help children with autism spectrum disorder see that you can rise above your differences and achieve great things.

The book is not only good for children with autism but is of great benefit for teachers, parents, caregivers, siblings and anyone who may need help understanding that autism may contribute to a child's differences but it does not have to keep them from reaching all their possibilities.

Different Like Me is available at bookstores and Amazon.com.
