Autism Biennial Congress 2009Autism Through the Lifespan is Theme of Vancouver, BC Event
Registration is open for the Autism Biennial Congress 2009 featuring Peter Bell of Autism Speaks, Teresa Bolick, Ph.D. and Dr. Jeff Bradstreet.
The Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada will host the Autism Biennial Congress 2009 from February 26 – March 1. The theme for the 2009 event is “Autism Through the Lifespan” and will address autism-related concerns from childhood through adolescence and into adulthood. SpeakersThe speakers that have confirmed for the 2009 event include Peter Bell who currently serves as the Vice President of Programs of Autism Speaks. Prior to his current role, Bell was the president and CEO of Cure Autism Now (CAN); CAN and Autism Speaks merged in February 2007. Other autism experts scheduled to speak include Teresa Bolick, Ph.D., Dr. Jeff Bradstreet, Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh, Dr. Valerie Paradiz, Elijah Wapner and many more. According to the Autism Vancouver website, “Speakers will focus on ways to improve the quality of life for the affected individuals and their families/caregivers by conducting presentations in the areas of educational and biomedical interventions, research, adjunct therapies, diet and nutrition, and family issues. “ Great Plains Laboratory Physician TrainingThe Autism Biennial Congress 2009 conference will feature a one-day Physician Training track dedicated to biomedical treatments. Kansas-based Great Plains Laboratory is known worldwide for its focus on testing for nutritional deficiencies in individuals with autism and ADHD. The Physician Training track will start with a two-hour presentation by Dr. William Shaw on “Using Biomedical Testing Interpretation to Determine Treatment Options and Overview of Testing Options.” The day continues with discussions led by Lori Knowles, Scott Clack, ND and two additional presentations by Dr. William Shaw. Other topics covered in the Physician Training sessions are information related to the organic acid test, nutritional supplementation, IgG food allergy testing and heavy metal toxicity. About Dr. ShawDr. William Shaw is the Director of Great Plains Laboratory and a member of the Autism Biennial Congress 2009 Scientific Committee. Dr. Shaw obtained his PhD in biochemistry and human physiology from the Medical University of South Carolina and is a member of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Shaw is well known on the autism conference circuit and has participated in National Autism Association and Defeat Autism Now conferences in the past. Dr. Shaw has also written a book on the topic, Biological Treatments for Autism & PDD [Sunflower Publishing, 1998.] The registration fees for the Vancouver-based Autism Biennial Congress start at $125 CDN for a one-day pass for parents or students.
